A former Washington County jailer has pleaded guilty to official misconduct for selling cigarettes to inmates for $100 per pack.
Timothy Ray Crain, of Johnson City, entered his plea to eight counts of misconduct on Monday and was sentenced to one year in jail in the plea agreement.
Crain told Criminal Court Judge Robert Cupp that the inmates approached him about buying the cigarettes.
Sheriff Ed Graybeal said the county jailer went into the inmates' property to get their bank card, they gave him their PIN and he went to their bank to get the $100.
Although restitution was not part of the original plea agreement, the judge said he will order Crain to repay the $800.
